2015 Toyota Prius c Receives IIHS Top Safety Pick

The subcompact 2015 Toyota Prius c is the smallest and most affordable hybrid we sell at our Waukegan Toyota dealership. Many drivers can feel concerned about their safety driving a smaller vehicle, but there’s no need to worry about the 2015 Toyota Prius c as it was just named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick.

A few years back, the IIHS introduced their small-overlap front crash test designed to simulate a crash where the driver’s front left corner comes in contact with another car or a pole. This is a common type of collision that could potentially cause the collapse of the front cabin.

Automakers across the board initially struggled with the test, especially with their subcompact cars. Toyota has responded by strengthening both the interior driver space as well as the front end of the 2015 Toyota Prius c. In addition, they also lengthened the reach of the interior side curtain airbags.

Thanks to those changes, the vehicle earned a passing “Acceptable” rating in the small-overlap crash test. In the moderate-overlap front, side, roof strength, and restraint tests, the small hybrid earned a perfect score of “Good.” Altogether this was enough for the IIHS to give the vehicle their Top Safety Pick award.

The 2015 Toyota Prius c comes with a 1.5L four-cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor and battery pack. Together they help the hatchback to achieve an EPA-estimated 53 mpg city and 46 mpg highway.
