As is often the case, the actual catalyst of dangerous driving conditions is not the biggest thing you have to worry about, it’s the other people sharing the road with you. Storms tend to make people jittery, and jittery drivers can be unsafe drivers. Unfortunately, you won’t just have to look out for yourself, you’ll have to look out for them too.

The best defense you have against driving in a really bad storm is not driving in a really bad storm. If you’re aware of the weather and can avoid it, just don’t go out. Obviously, this isn’t always an option. However, if it is, ask yourself if that knickknack you need from the corner store is really worth the hassle.

If you thought you could beat the storm but miscalculated, you can always pull over and wait out the worst of it. For one reason or another, people don’t actually like doing this, so here are some tips for driving in the worst of a storm.

Visibility

A combo of dark clouds and precipitation in the many forms it takes can make seeing your way around far more troublesome than normal. Make sure that your wipers are performing at their best and that your head and brake lights are all fully functional. Being seen in your 2018 Toyota Prius can be as important as seeing.

Drive Carefully
