For the third consecutive time this year, Toyota Motor Sales was the number 1 retail manufacturer after solid sales performance in May. This is just the latest victory in a series of momentum-building months so far this year. But the proof is in the pudding: Toyota Motor Sales posted sales of 207,952 units last month, a 2.5-percent increase compared to May of 2012.

Toyota Division itself saw sales of 185,723 units in May, a 2.3 percent increase versus the same month last year. Maybe it’s the weather; or maybe it’s an exciting line of vehicles that covers the gamut, from reliable hybrids to dynamic crossovers like the 2013 Toyota RAV4 that can do it all. Across the board, the entire Toyota line of vehicles had a good month:

  • Retail sales up 7.5 percent
  • Hybrid sales up 16.7 percent
  • Camry sales of 39,216 units
  • Prius family sales increase nearly 10 percent
  • Avalon sales increased 260 percent (7,099 units)
  • RAV4 posted best-ever May sales of 20,780 units (8 percent increase)
  • Tacoma sales of 14,727 units (a 20 percent increase)
  • Tundra sales of 9,950 units (a 13.5 percent increase)

In Libertyville, Toyota dealerships are certainly thrilled with all of the momentum that the Toyota nameplate has this year. Our success represents the commitment that Toyota has to delivering an efficient, affordable and safe vehicle in each category that it touches, from pickup trucks to hybrids. If the sales highlights listed above are any indication–and we think they are–than Toyota is doing a pretty darn good job at the moment.
