It’s National Wine and Cheese Day! Wisconsin is the Cheese capital of the world, and for good reason: Wisconsin’s cheesemakers have created six hundred different cheese varieties crafted at more than 125 cheese plants and shops, with dairy sourced from more than 10,000 Dairy Farms in the state.
And of course, what goes better with these handcrafted cheeses than an incredible wine? That’s right! Wisconsin is not just Cheese Central, but it’s also an iconic destination for wine enthusiasts. On today’s blog, we’re taking you all around “Wisconsin Wine Country” as we explore some of the region’s best wineries, as well as unique cheese and dairy makers that you simply must sample along with your fine wines!
Fun Fact:
Wisconsin is home to a variety of specialized grapes which do quite well thanks to the unusual soil composition of the Niagara Escarpment, the climate of the Mississippi River Valley, and the eastern-facing vineyards with lake effect air from Lake Wisconsin and the Wisconsin River. There are now more than 110 commercial wineries in the state, covering more than 1,300 acres of land across 5 different wine regions.
