Minocqua is always a wonderful place to visit in the summer, but the fun doesn’t stop there!  Winter time is a prime season for excitement and activities, so don’t let a little snow scare you away from booking a vacation “off-season”.  Make your way across the countryside and through the forests on a winter snowshoe hike or some cross-country skiing. Feel the wind in your hair as you glide along the well-groomed trails on a snowmobile.  Or maybe get your fix before fishing season starts by trying your hand at ice-fishing.  The possibilities are endless!  So what are you waiting for? Let’s hit the road!

Experience the Thrill of Winter Sports in Minocqua

Whether you prefer the controlled conditions of a man-made ice rink, or you love the connection to nature on frozen lakes, there’s lots of opportunities for ice skating.  We recommend checking out Chip Wulff Memorial Pond at the Minocqua Winter Park, Torpy Park Public Ice Rink, Woodruff Town Hall Ice Rink, and the Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena which has both indoor and outdoor skating options.

Explore the wilds like never before and enjoy a peaceful day out in the woods on the trails.  Minocqua Winter Park offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, and even a skijoring loop if you’re traveling with pups in tow; kids will also be excited to find opportunities to enjoy sledding and snowtubing hills. The Northwoods offers both ziplining trails and fat tire biking trails.

Get in Touch with Nature and Appreciate the Great Outdoors

While the lake is prime real estate for boating, fishing, and water skiing, in the winter months it transforms into a true winter wonderland!  Take a day out to snowshoe across the frozen waters, and grab your ice fishing pole for a peaceful, quiet day on the lake while you snag the catch of the day for dinner later.  Anglers report finding common catches such as bluegill, yellow perch, walleye, and northern pike.  Looking for something a little faster? Good news! There’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy some snowmobiling across the lake, or any of the 1,700+ miles of trails.  New to the sport? You can contact one of the many snowmobile clubs in the area such as Cross Country Cruisers, Minocqua Forest Riders, and Northern Hornshoe Trail Snowmobile Club.

Indoor Fun for Everyone

If the weather is a little too nippy and the winds are too blustery and snowy, don’t fret!  There are numerous options for fun indoors as much as out.  The Northwoods Wildlife Center will introduce you to some special animal ambassadors and take you on a guided tour to learn about local wildlife and plants.  The Campanile Center for the Arts is a year-round destination for performing arts, live music, visual arts classes, and creative workshops for all ages.  Local toy and game shop Imaginuity offers an outstanding selection of toys and brain teasers, and you can select a family-friendly option from board games to card games to puzzles.  Island City Lanes offers family-friendly bowling, as well as video games, billiards, and darts.  Book a session for some indoor tee time and practice your swing at Lakeland Fitness and Golf.  Paint your own pottery and ceramics at Earth Goods studio.
