Happy National Apple Day! Today, we’re celebrating National Apple Day with some fun facts about our favorite fall fruit, as well as some amazing places you can check out locally to do some apple picking.  These fabulous apple orchards and u-pick farms are a great way to celebrate all things autumnal. Whether you’re purchasing already made baked goods, or gathering some select produce to make your own for the holiday season, you’ll find the perfect thing at these local Illinoius and Wisconsin orchards..  Plus, we’ve also got some bonus recipe suggestions at the end to try with your freshly picked apples.

Did you know…

  • The official state fruit of Illinois is the Goldrush Apple
  • It takes 36 apples to make 1 gallon of apple cider
  • There are more than 2,500 varieties of apple grown here in the US, but the only species native to North America is the crabapple.
  • It takes an average of four or five years for an apple tree to produce its own fruits
  • Apples float because they are made of 80-85% water; 2 apples equals about one average glass of water.
