We’re taking a short road trip over to our neighbors in Indiana for today’s post, and highlighting the best places for downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports fun!  Indiana’s landscapes are beckoning for a snowy vacation getaway, with the rural landscapes and forests transformed into a veritable winter wonderland.  You can sail down the slopes on your skis, hike through snow-capped mountains and trees, or fly across the well-groomed trails for some exhilarating snowmobiling.  Whatever winter adventures you’ve been craving, you’ll find plenty of fun to be had.  So, let’s hit the road in your new car from Classic Auto Group Waukegan and get to the excitement!

We’re going to start our list off with something a little unexpected over in Angola.  If you have fond memories of sledding down a snowy hill as a child, this will surely trigger that sense of childhood wonder and joy again.  Pokagon State Park Toboggan Run is the only one of its kind in all of the Midwest!  There’s a 30 foot tower filled with dips, turns, and valleys, and a vertical drop total of 90 feet along its quarter mile course. If you find yourself thinking this can’t possibly compare to the thrill of downhill skiing, we’re going to stop you right there: that toboggan can reach speeds of 42MPH or higher!  The Toboggan run is open from late November through Mid-to-Late February, (estimated closing 2/23/25 this year.)  The park also offers several miles of cross-country skiing trails, with trails marked for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers.

If you’re in the mood for traditional skiing and snowboarding, head on out to Paoli and visit Paoli Peaks resort.  This alpine ski resort offers winter sports fun for skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing as well as the increasingly popular snowblading!  Paoli Peaks is built into a natural hill with a 900 foot elevation and a 300 foot vertical drop. The resort offers 15 trails and 1 terrain park. If you’re new to winter sports, you’ll find at least ¼ of the trails and terrain are beginner friendly, with the majority leaning towards intermediate level, and another ¼ or so tailored to advanced skill level.  It’s a great option for families, especially if you’ve got kids and teens who are looking for more of a challenge, but there’s also several different options for lessons for those who want to learn from scratch.  The Arctic Blast Tubing Park is exhilarating no matter if you’re a kid or kid at heart, and runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.  The resort has several dining options including kid friendly pizza and Sunday s’mores nights, as well as a rotating calendar of special winter time events and activities.

For an action packed winter vacation, snag some tickets for a day out at  Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg.  First-timers will be hitting the slopes with confidence after a round of free skiing and snowboarding lessons; when you’re feeling brave, have a crack at the short slopes for beginners before leveling up to something more difficult.  For snowboarding, you’ll find two different options at the Perfect North Slopes Terrain Parks: Jam Session is the mini version for beginners and Audition is the larger area for more experienced boarders.  For those who prefer a less strenuous winter sports experience, snowtubing will provide plenty of speed and excitement without much balance required.  You can slide by yourself or with a large group of friends and family!
