Are you on the hunt for skiing and snowboarding terrain that will challenge you? Do you seek new thrills and adventures during winter vacation getaways? Well, look no further than our neighbors in nearby Michigan. Believe it or not, Michigan actually ranks second for the most ski areas in the US!  There are more than 40 incredible ski areas and slopes to choose from, and we’ll be covering a small selection of them on today’s blog.  Whether you’re seeking the chance to learn the ropes from the pros and practice your newbie skills, or you’re a seasoned expert who seeks novel terrain and courses, we’re sure you’ll find a treasure trove of entertainment.  Whether you travel far up north or explore the snowbelt of the lower peninsula, you’ll definitely have a blast with numerous winter sports options from snowblading to skiing to tubing and more.  Let’s hit the road!

Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls has been open since 1948 and certainly made a name for itself as a family-friendly staple. Thanks to modern amenities and constant improvements and additions, the current iteration is a far cry from the original single run, single hut, single lift origins. More than 70 years later, guests can now choose from Nordic or Alpine Skiing, Snowshoeing, Snow-Tubing, Ice Skating, and more. Plus, you can also check out the nearby sister resort at Boyne Highlands if you still haven’t had your fill of fun.  There are 65 runs to choose from across 415 acres of skiable terrain, 200 acres of which are available for Night Skiing opportunities.  The summit reaches an impressive 1,120’ with a vertical drop of 500’ for the experts in our midst.  While the area sees its fair share of snowfall, there’s also 380 acres of snow making coverage, guaranteeing you’ll have a great time no matter what the weather.

The Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs offers 432 acres jampacked with action and fun on its 53 runs and 3 terrain parks.  It’s a great choice for group and family trips where you may have mixed ages and experience levels who enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, and trail biking.  One of the unique features of this resort is its quaint winter woodlands walk, The Enchanted Trail; this family friendly evening experience leads visitors through a twinkling trail of lights and crunchy snow covered walking paths until you reach a cozy little yurt with a fireplace and warm, cozy mugs of cocoa  (kids 5 and under attend free!)  The Nordic Center on site offers the chance to experience cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing.  Get an adrenaline rush as you careen through snow-covered trees in the longest Zipline in Michigan, and then finish up your day with a night time hike to North Peak. Hankering for something new entirely? Check out the unique Sno-Go experience and get a special 3-hour tour with an expert guide to show you the ropes

Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville makes for the perfect weekend getaway!  There are nearly 60 runs of varied terrain with a 375′ vertical drop.  Don’t leave anyone behind during your trip, as there are options that suit everyone in your family and all skill levels of experience: 16 runs are beginner, 27 are intermediate, 16 are advanced.  If you’re in the mood to try something new, hit the trails and enjoy some fat tire biking in the snow, stop by one of the award-winning spas on site, or check out the nearby Igloo Rentals and Snowshoeing options.
