Toyota kept its momentum going in April thanks to strong performances from some new and old faces. Thanks to brand new 2013 Toyota Avalon (sales increase of 119 percent, best April since 2007) and Toyota Camry (over 30,000 unis sold for the fifth consecutive month), Toyota Division remained the No.1 retail brand for the second month in a row.
Yet the Avalon and the Camry weren’t alone in their success. A handful of other members of the Toyota family posted impressive numbers last month. Toyota Division truck sales were up over 70,000 units, an 11.6 percent increase. The Tacoma and Tundra played a key role in that regard with a 19 percent and 14 percent increase in April sales, respectively. The other family making noise was that of the Prius, which retained its hybrid volume leader crown with sales of nearly 20,000 units in total.
There were some individual stars as well. The all-new RAV4 experienced its best April yet, with over 18,500 units sold (a 22 percent increase versus April of 2012). In minivan category, the Sienna stayed strong with nearly 10,000 units sold and a 5.3 percent increase versus the same month last year.
