The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is here!  This special harvest festival from East and Southeast Asian cultures is celebrated in mid-September to early October, or during the 8th month of the Lunisolar Calendar. Families come together during this time to celebrate and enjoy the autumn harvests, light special lanterns, and admire the “fullest moon of the year”. This year’s official holiday falls on September 17th, with celebrations happening this weekend in many towns and cities.

Wishing you a delightful, Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! May your day be filled with happiness and the love of friends and family. We wish you prosperity, strength, health, and happiness, as well as good fortune for the future. From all of us here at Classic Auto Group!

You’ll find variations of this festival celebrated in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Some of the things you can expect to see and enjoy at this festival include special taro, persimmons, chestnuts, pomelo and starfruit, as well as sticky rice balls, steamed rice cakes with sweet fillings, Mooncakes, and more.

Popular activities include moongazing, lantern lightings, lantern-painting competitions, live performances, lion dances, storytelling, ceremonial moon rituals, dancing and singing, and searching for the moon rabbit.

This year, the Chicago Mid-Autumn Moon Festival event is sponsored by the Chicago Park District as part of the Mayor’s Night Out in the Parks series. Festivities will be celebrated on Saturday, September 21st from 5PM to 7PM at the Set in Stone Gathering Place in the Burnham Wildlife Corridor.  This free, family-friendly event is open to the public to enjoy!  You’ll enjoy some special Chinese folk music and dance performances, an astronomy station, a live DJ, lantern-making stations, a fashion show, and much more!  Families will get to participate in an evening procession to observe the largest moon of the year, as well as an opportunity to make lanterns and seed bombs together.

Enjoy your mooncakes and lanterns and family festivities!
