Classic Auto Group is Celebrating the Beautiful Biodiversity of Illinois for World Wildlife Day

We’re very excited that it’s World Wildlife Day!  This year’s theme is all about recovering key local species with the intent of restoring and preserving the local ecosystem.  By raising awareness of the creatures and beings that live right here in our own backyard, we will be able to have a much better life for the future. more Caring for our home and its native species will help us cultivate and preserve the unique aspects of our region, inviting new folks to visit, stay, and play here!  In addition, we’ll be ensuring that animal, insect, and plant life will be thriving and surviving for many years and generations to come.  Let’s take a look at some of the native animals right here in the neighbourhood where Classic Auto Group lives, works, and plays, too! What kind of ecosystems do we have here in the Lake County Area? The southern portion of Lake Michigan has been, home to several types of ecosystem: northern bog and tundra, eastern deciduous woodlands, southern swamps, western prairie!  The wide variety of environments and ecosystems makes the region one of the most biodiverse areas in the world.  It’s very exciting! What is biodiversity? Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world, a particular habitat or ecosystem, and it is essential for all living things.  There are three levels of biodiversity: genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity; without a wide variety of plants, microorganisms, and animals, our world and humans would suffer immensely as a whole.  We rely on biodiversity to provide us the air we breathe and the food we eat, so it is important we care for the physical environment to ensure its preservation and survival.  Together we have to work to fight against climate change and preserve life! Let’s take a closer look at some of the beautiful wildlife and creatures that call Lake County home! No matter where you live in the US, chances are your state lays claim to fame for “best kinda pizza anywhere!”  As much as we’d love to agree with you, we know that the only real pizza worth eating is the  illustrious regional classic: the Chicago Deep Dish! No matter what ingredients you prefer in your pie, we won’t judge you, because we're free spirited people; just about anything goes when it comes to toppings for our state’s greatest culinary achievement.  Be it pepperoni or pineapple or peppers and onions, we can’t complain! It’s all gravy (the tomato kind, even.) So for today, on this, the day of National Pizza appreciation, we’re sharing some of our picks for best local and regional pizzamakers.  And you can feel confident in our suggestions, because we consider our collective staff something of an expert in the subject. Dungarees Carhartt Car Organizers When it comes to trusted names in durability and safety, you just can’t beat the Carhartt brand! These rugged back of seat organizers can handle all the dirt, muck and grime of your outdoor adventures…or even the ever-present stickiness of toddlers and little ones.  You’ll find plenty of convenient pockets, nooks, and crannies to store your electronics and utensils as well as toiletries. Carhatt Universal Bench Seat Cover For those who love to go offroading, living that “van life” down by the river, or even picking up the kids from a weekend at camp or soccer clinic, the Carhartt bench covers are a great option.  These are easy to install, easy to clean, and made from the same trusted materials you know and love from the Carhartt brand.  It’s the perfect choice to protect your new car’s upholstery from repeated cleanings or damage. Rooftop Cargo Storage Modern vehicles usually have quite ample trunk space and plenty of under-seat and side pocket storage, but extra cargo space is a must for those of us who are traveling for the long haul.  Store just about anything you need for your trip without blocking your essential vision spots with an overstuffed car.  This convenient and expansive cargo storage attaches to your roof and comes with a combination lock for security.  It’s a great option for car-camping and off-roading! Aquapel Glass Treatment Water Repellent We’re big fans of windshield treatments that make it easier to see while driving in inclement weather. Besign BK01 Bluetooth Car Kit Did you opt for a basics package with your new vehicle for a more budget friendly pricetag? We understand!  But in today’s day and age, it’s always a great idea to ensure that you can safely navigate and communicate while on the road.  That’s why we’re recomending this Bluetooth Car Kit to connect with your smart phones and tablets for hands-free communication and navigation.  The price is perfect for the budget savvy traveler! High Road Heavy-Duty Expandable Clothes Hanger A life of adventure on the road doesn’t mean you won’t want to stop for a fancy event or outing!  Have a nice night on the town with wrinkle-free duds thanks to this expandable clothes hanger.  Avoid wasting precious time ironing and de-wrinkling your wardrobe and hang it while you travel instead.  It’s sturdy, durable, and holds plenty of outfit options no matter where you’re headed. BioLite Camp Stove Every off-road traveler should consider grabbing one of these handy devices. The BioLite camping stove can be used in emergencies during wintertime to provide heat until safety arrives, or it can be used to boil water in remote locations to keep you hydrated.  As an added bonus, it’s great for campsite cooking and marshmallow roasting.  Conveniently designed for easy travel and small footprint in your storage capacity. Car emergency Toll with Digital Tire Gauge This handy multitool is a favourite with our readers and staff.  We love the easy-to-read tire gauge and collapsible/expandable pocket tool options.  Fits neatly into your glove compartment, center console, or even door side pocket.  Don’t leave home without it! Stoic Double Cloud Camp Bed Long road trips can be expensive as it is, and opting for a comfortable hotel can get costly!  Save your dime for adventuring and use your car’s cargo area to rest on this travel mattress. Or pop up your weatherproof tent  with the cloud camp bed for a comfortable night’s sleep in the wilderness.  It’s easy to set up and easy to clean, too! YETI Hopper Flip 8 Cooler Rugged. Durable. Spacious. Efficient.  These are all great reasons why we love the Flip 8 Cooler from YETI.  Keep your food warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  Never worry about being dehydrated on your camping trips, either!  It fits plenty of water bottles, beverage cans, and food containers.  Plus, the adjustable strap is tough enough to lug just about anywhere and can be removed for hand-held carrying if preferred.

Amazing Cultural and Creative Destinations Celebrating Black History and Black Excellence in the Greater Chicago Area

We’re very excited to share today’s blog post with you.  In honor of Black History month, we’re sharing an incredible list of local galleries, performance venues, museums and cultural centers featuring Black Creators, Black Musicians, and notable public figures in Black American History.  In addition, many of them are also Black Owned Businesses, which is a great way to directly support our local community! more Including modern Black artists is imperative for a well rounded vision of society and America.  We’re supporting the arts and Black Creators by sharing this fabulous list of venues to explore.  Historically, many Black artists and creators have been left out of larger museum and gallery collections, and history vignettes have been relegated only to overseas artifacts or tribal customs.  Today, curators and art historians are making concerted efforts to be more inclusive in current collections and exhibitions.  Check out our picks below, and let us know which is your favourite place to visit! Before you head to these great American cultural centers, we also recommend you view the 90 minute documentary “Black Art: In the Absence of Light” via HBO. This enlightening documentary highlights many notable Black artists and gallerists as well as art historians, and we believe listening to their perspectives and learning these names will enrich your visits to these institutions.  You can even download the supplemental materials, or try your hand at the suggested art projects that correlate!  It’s a great way to get up close and personal with the arts before your excursions. Let’s Go To the Movies: What to Bring To the Drive-In Going to the movies is very exciting for little ones, especially if you’re at the drive-in!  And as fun as it is, an unexpected mess or a case of the fidgets while waiting for the show to start can make things go haywire.  That’s why we love to keep a little bag of tricks in our trunk to ensure that the experience is a breeze, and everyone can enjoy themselves together with less stress.  Plus, there’s some bonus picks for grown-up movie nights and date night suggestions! For Kiddos: Pack boxes with juice pouches, bags of fresh fruits and veggies, and crackers or munchies to keep them satisfied.  Pack some insulated water bottles to keep them cool and hydrated. Bring some cozy snuggle stuff such as a hooded blankie, fleece blanket, stuffies, or cotton throw. Pack an overnight bag with extra clean clothes - one spare outfit per child, and make sure it’s easy to wiggle-on in a pinch such as PJs or sweatpants or leggings.  For babies or toddlers, consider packing at least two onesies or sleepsuits.  Plan for being out late, and perhaps having some spills or accidents needing a swap. Bring simple outdoor toys such as velcro mitts with a tennis ball, a frisbee, a beachball, or similar to play outside and keep the kids happy before the movie starts. Plus, it means they’ll be a little knackered and more likely to sit still for the duration! A box or two of glow sticks and glowing jewelry, and party style spinning flashlights will keep kids entertained in the dark before the movie starts. For Everyone: Snag some comfortable cushions or pillows with waterproof material for sitting outside, or to add a little luxury to your car’s interior. Stay warm and cozy and comfortable in your car with a pile of soft blankets. Folding chairs for those who need a change of pace from sitting in the car and want to sit outside. A box filled with your favourite movie theatre snacks, chips, crackers, and other snack packs and candies.  Include a small cooler with ice for veggies, fruits, and bottled drinks.  And you can even jazz things up with a simple charcuterie tray for a date night twist! Don’t skimp on the wet wipes, napkins, paper towels, or hand sanitizer (and you might even want to toss a spare roll or two of toilet paper in there in case the bathrooms are less than equipped.) Bring some bug spray in case you leave your windows open or opt for the outdoor seating. Flashlights and LED candles can add an ambiance and make it easier to find your way to and from the car in the dark while stretching your legs or a walk to the facilities. Last but not least, pack some plastic grocery bags and a garbage bag to gather up your trash at the end of the night.. Fabulous Drive-In Movie Theatre Experiences Drive-In movies are a special experience in movie watching, so why not make a mini road trip and memorable weekend getaway around this cinematic excursion?  Grab your own camera or your smartphone and film a little documentary about your road trip as you go to your destination, and create some beautiful keepsake videos together.  Check out these suggestions for drive-in theatres and plan your next visit when the season opens, or check what’s playing now!
