After a whole day spent with family, friends, and enough food to last a lifetime, why not take a day off to kick back, relax, and go for a ride to clear your mind!  Take in the gorgeous scenery all around Illinois as you “take the long way” back home.  Prolong those vacation day vibes with a slow stroll down charming little villages. Explore the unique people and places in the historic towns that dot the highways and byways, or immerse yourself in the beauty of nature along trails and shorelines. more We can’t think of a better way to spend National “Go For A Ride” day than these gorgeous roadways: Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive, Canton With over 140 scenic miles of roadway in the valley, you’ll find plenty of stops for photo ops, scenic views, markets to shop, and special events.  The highlight of the region is its yearly fall festival in October, featuring open air markets, vendor tables, artisan goods and crafts, and plenty of family fun.  Take a self guided tour of the valley through several Illinois towns and along the Illinois river and make some family road trip memories.  You’ll make your way through 17 historic villages and sites along the way. The Great Rivers Byway, Hartford With 33 miles of byway to explore where the Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois Rivers converge, this is a memorable road trip for the books!  Check out the forested river bluffs, quaint roadside communities, stunning scenery and waterscapes, and end your journey at Pere Marquette State Park.  The small village of Elsah, also known as “the village where time stood still”, was the first village to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is like taking a step back in time. The quaint town of Godfrey offers beautiful local shops, charming tea rooms, and delicious eateries. Grafton’s waterfront downtown district offers beautiful sunset views of the riverfront, and prime entertainment and dining. Plus, there’s plenty of museums, galleries, historic sights, and trails to explore! The Morton Arboretum, Lisle A versatile stop for those who prefer a short, scenic drive with 9 miles of paved roadways and plenty of room to stretch your legs afterwards on the 16 miles of hiking trailways.  There’s lots to see and do such as enjoy a stroll through the Children’s Garden and Maze Garden, or spend an active day exploring in the woods.  From blossoms and blooms in springtime and summer, to bright fiery foliage in the autumn, to picturesque snow-covered statues in winter, the Arboretum is an essential scenic stop all year round. Historic National Road, Marshall This beautiful roadway was the first federally-funded road in US History; it originally made its way from Cumberland, Maryland all the way up to Vandalia, Illinois.  Today it runs from Marshall, Illinois through East St. Louis.  If you’re into collecting fun roadside attraction photos, you’ll love this drive!  Check out the oldest house in Illinois in Marshall, the “Giant Things” of Casey such as knitting needles and a rocking chair and pencil, a beautiful timber bridge in Greenup, learn about the start of President Lincoln’s political career in Vandalia, visit the Teutopolis Monastery museum, and so much more along its 164 mile route. Grandview Drive, Peoria This might be the shortest drive on our list, but it’s certainly not short on gorgeous views.  Winding its way along the Illinois River and through the valley from PRospect Road to Route 29, you’ll find a plethora of historic homes as well as beautiful landscape photo ops.  If you’re looking for outdoor activities, this will also hit the spot as it’s got plenty of options to get out and walk, hike, or bike the trails along the route.  Prime time to visit is during Autumn, but this winding roadway is still picturesque year round. Illinois River Road Scenic National Byway, Peoria This iconic 140 mile stretch of roadway cuts through 10 counties and connects 100 different nature sites, trails, and parks in the Illinois River Valley; a portion of it includes the Great River Road which follows the Mississippi. Prime time to visit is autumn for the fall foliage and leaf peeping season, but it’s gorgeous year round to be sure.  Including gorgeous waterfront views, cliff bluffs, and forest landscapes, you’ll have plenty of choices for family photo op backdrops.  If you’re looking to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find lots of spots for hiking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, and other fun activities.  If you enjoy shopping and strolling, you can visit any of the region’s picturesque towns and main streets for shopping, cultural events, art, and then some.  Create a family travel itinerary via the official website here.

Thursday marks the official kickoff to the holidays, which means lots of traveling to and from friends and relatives for the next month and change.  No matter if you’re traveling one mile or one hundred miles, we’ve put together a handy checklist of things to check before you hit the road.  These basic service tips are vital safety checks on your vehicle to prevent accidents from early frosts, wet leaves, and blustery conditions.  If you need any of these items replaced or serviced, please do so before embarking on your holiday journeys.  We want to know our customers and clients will arrive safely at their destination to enjoy their turkey dinners! more Holiday Road Trip Pre-Travel Checklist: Check your front and rear brakes, emergency brake, and brake light system. Do not skimp on this checkpoint. A  good solid set of brakes and quality rotors can be the difference between a safe stop and total decimation of your vehicle and serious injuries.  It is important to make sure that your braking system and brake light are in perfect working order before you’re faced with a split second decision to swerve, stop short, or avoid dangerous snowbanks or black ice.  You want to drive with confidence knowing your vehicle will keep you safe in the event of potential accidents! Check your tires. Check your tire pressure and make sure the PSI matches the manufacturer requirements (can be located in your manual or on a label on the side door pockets or frame.)  Look for signs of wear and tear such as bulges and bubbles, cracks or small tears, or significant tread wear leaving bald spots.  Consider rotating your tires if you’ve not done it in awhile.  Any damaged tires should be replaced, and any summer tires swapped out for all-weather or winter tires should be considered if you live in an area that gets particularly rough winter weather! Inspect your wiper blades, defroster, and heater. As the weather gets colder, it’s vital to your safety that you have properly working wiper blades to clear away frost and snow or other inclement weather.  It’s also important to check the defroster and heat blower functionality, as these two elements must be functioning properly to ensure wiper efficiency.  Before it gets too cold out, consider applying a thorough application of a water-repellant such as RainX to the glass surfaces on your vehicle to aid in visibility during storms. Check your car battery. Colder months mean we’re more apt to leave our car running to “warm it up” so we don’t shiver on our morning commutes.  This also means a higher potential for draining the battery through accidental means.  Be prepared in the event of human error or issues at start-up by always keeping an emergency car kit in your trunk.  This kit should include flares, warning signs, as well as a good set of jumper cables (long and short!) and a portable battery charger to jump-start in the event you’re stranded with no one around, or in a space where no one can reach your vehicle.  If a vehicle is going into or coming out of storage, the battery should definitely be checked and replaced as they do lose charge while sitting. Clean your headlights and replace any dim or broken bulbs. There is nothing more frightening than encountering a blustery thunderstorm ,white-out snowstorm, or horizontal icy rains and not being able to see more than 2 feet ahead of you.  Having bright, clear headlights is going to make all the difference in getting where you’re going safely and in one piece.  Be sure to apply a headlight cleaner and swap out your bulbs for bright clear ones if yours are not up to par. As the second entry in the U.S. Toyota Crown lineup, the 2025 Crown Signia also marks the nameplate’s entry into the SUV category. For almost 70-years of Toyota history, the Toyota Crown name has become synonymous with quality and sophistication among Toyota vehicles. In 2024, the Crown Signia will add a new dimension to the ongoing legend, bringing North American customers an elevated ride and premium quality in a stylish crossover package. more “The Toyota Crown Signia takes all of the exceptional attributes of the Toyota Crown name and shapes them into a functional, sophisticated package that customers will adore,” said TMNA Group Vice President, David Christ at the product debut. “It’s the first-ever entry into the crossover SUV category for Toyota’s longest running nameplate and it showcases how we continue to elevate our designs, deliver premium quality, and take Hybrid efficiency in versatile new directions.” Exclusively equipped with the Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) powertrain with On-Demand All Wheel Drive (AWD) standard, the Crown Signia will be available in XLE and Limited grades and brings refined style and impeccable comfort in a package that’s sure to turn heads. Its sleek cabin offers upscale comfort with available textured leather-trimmed seating, elegant finishing touches like bronze-finished trim and color- matched, soft touch panels on the doors and dashboard, and a center console with vertical wireless charger and storage. The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia will come with the Toyota HEV system, standard. Powered by a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with two electric motor generators, this proven tech seamlessly delivers 243 combined system net horsepower and has a preliminary manufacturer-estimated 36 combined MPG rating. Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive also comes standard, a highly efficient system has a dedicated rear electric motor to deliver extra traction when needed and is capable of towing up to 2,700 pounds. The Crown Signia’s performance vibe comes from a combination of its wide stance, available 21-inch wheels, and Toyota Hammerhead front end, which consists of a signature DRL and compact headlight unit and geometric lower grille. Its flowing roofline and sleek cabin give it a dramatic shape that’s stylish and functional, as it houses a comfortable cabin with a roomy second row seating that folds flat to reveal a 6.5-foot-long cargo area. Five fashion forward colors will also be available, with Storm Cloud, Finish Line Red, Oxygen White, Black, and Bronze Age. Seating in a choice of Saddle Tan or Black will be available on both grades. With the Crown Signia’s debut, Toyota will soon have 19 electrified models available for sale in its U.S. model lineup. In 2023, the Toyota Crown sedan brought the nameplate back to the U.S. after a 51-year hiatus. Globally, the Toyota Crown has been on sale since 1955 and has long set a standard for innovation and engineering quality for Toyota. It was also the first Japanese car to hit American shores back in 1958. The Toyota Crown Signia brings the celebrated nameplate into the crossover SUV category for the first time in its history. With a name based on the term “insignia”, the Crown Signia is a nod to the model’s importance over the years, with this first-ever model standing as an expressive mark of the innovation, creativity, and achievements of the lineup as it drives forward into a bold new era. The Toyota Crown Signia is assembled at the Tsutsumi Plant in Aichi Japan and uses the Toyota New Global Architecture K (TNGA-K) platform that also underpins the Crown sedan. As such, Crown Signia delivers the best of both worlds: sedan-like driving comfort and SUV versatility. Thanks to its crossover design, the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia offers ample room for five in a highly maneuverable package that rides on 21-inch dark gray metallic colored alloy wheels on the Limited and black-accented 19-inch multi-spoke machine finished two tone alloy wheels on the XLE. The TNGA-K platform helps prevent noise intrusion into the cabin, curbing vibration through the steering, floor, and body structure. Toyota engineers also spent countless hours studying and engineering reductions in noise, vibration, and harshness for the Crown Signia. Noise minimizing materials include acoustic glass on front side windows, a dash silencer, and an engine cover made of acoustic absorbing materials. Crown Signia’s seats are comfortable and stylish with moderate bolsters that cradle the front seat passengers and a lounge-like design for the rear seats. On the Limited grade, smooth, high-quality leather-trimmed seats with double stitching, quilting, and fillet piping that flows up to the headrest provide a lux look. The XLE’s combination of fabric and SofTex®-trimmed seats create a modern feel. Crown Signia comes with standard 8-way driver and 8-way passenger power seats. The power driver’s seat on the Limited grade features an auto slide-away with memory function. The Crown Signia’s available heated and ventilated front seats can be adjusted to three levels for added comfort. Bronze-finished trim on the dash, console, and steering wheel on all grades draws focus to functional elements, like HVAC, drive mode select button, and audio controls, so they can be easily located. An available fixed glass Panoramic Roof with retractable shade on the Limited grade provides a light, airy feel to the interior. Up front, the center console allows for easy connection to personal devices, with a vertical wireless charger and three USB-C ports. The cup holder is designed with everyday functionality in mind, with a recessed design to help prevent drinks from spilling over to the shifter side. There is also a partition in the middle of the cup holder, maximizing its utility to fit long items like phones, tablets, and wallets. In the rear, passengers will enjoy the comfort and convenience of dedicated air vents, two cup holders, a rear bottle holder, seatback pockets, and two USB Type-C ports standard. Cargo space is abundant on Crown Signia with a rear deck that’s made for an active lifestyle, including a tonneau cover and aluminum scuff plate. Customers who need more room to accommodate outdoor equipment or luggage will appreciate 60/40 second row fold-flat seats with an extension panel, which provides a cargo space that is six-and-a-half feet long. The rear power liftgate allows for hands-free operation, and for convenience the rear seat release can be accessed from rear liftgate opening. Hybrid and All Wheel Drive Across the Board The Toyota lineup continues to expand its HEV offerings with the addition of the Crown Signia. As such, it’s classified as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) for passenger vehicle emissions. It uses an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) for optimal fuel economy. As with all Toyota hybrids, the feeling of everyday acceleration and responsiveness is heightened by the way the electric motor boosts low-speed torque. Selectable NORMAL, ECO and SPORT driving modes let the driver tailor the Crown Signia’s performance personality. SPORT mode improves and sharpens throttle response. ECO mode changes the throttle and environmental logic to help the driver focus on maximizing mileage from the fuel and battery, while NORMAL mode is ideal for everyday driving. Additionally, EV mode allows electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances. Its Electronic On-Demand AWD employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. It works seamlessly and transparently, preemptively distributing up to 80 percent of driving force to the rear wheels which helps suppress front wheel slip during off-the-line starts. The system also enhances cornering agility by helping to reduce understeer. Torque distribution varies with conditions, from 100:0 in constant-speed driving to 20:80 on slippery surfaces. Torque distribution can be indicated on the Multi-information Display and audio system screen. Cutting Edge Tech with Toyota Audio Multimedia The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia comes with a 12.3-inch color Multi Information Display (MID) and 12.3-inch touchscreen with the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system, standard. The MID provides a layout that is easily customized based on user preferences and provides drivers with information that fits their driving situation. Large, colorful digital “dials” are easy to read and can display a combination of information, with options like a tachometer for the performance minded driver or eco drive mode monitor for the hyper miler seeking maximum MPG. The Toyota Audio Multimedia System (TAMM) with a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Bluetooth® connectivity is standard on all grades. The system is designed and engineered by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technology team and is Over-the-Air Updatable. With an active Drive Connect* trial subscription, customers can take advantage of Intelligent Assistant, Cloud Navigation, and Destination Assist, which allows simple phrases like “Hey Toyota” to awaken the system for voice activated commands to search for directions and find Points of Interest (with an active Drive Connect trial or subscription), adjust audio controls, change the cabin temperatures and more. Crown Signia’s audio system was designed and tuned specifically for the vehicle for optimum audio enjoyment. The XLE grade equipped with a 6-speaker layout for crystal clear sound and for next level sound the Limited grade comes standard with an 11-speaker JBL® Premium audio system with subwoofer powered by an amplifier. In addition to AM/FM radio, Toyota audio systems serve up a full roster of connectivity tech, including wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. To further aid outward visibility, the Limited grade has an available Panoramic View Monitor with 360-degree Overhead View and Curb View that operates in low-speed drive and reverse. For additional convenience, the Limited grade comes standard with a Smart Key System that works on all four doors and the rear liftgate, the XLE grade has a 2-door Smart Key. The Limited grade also has Digital Key capability, which enables a smartphone to be used instead of a physical key (Remote Connect trial or subscription required). Safety & Convenience The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia will come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) standard. This suite of safety and driver assistance technologies includes: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Lane Tracing Assist Road Sign Assist Automatic High Beams Proactive Driving Assist It also has additional features such as Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist. The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is also equipped with eight airbags, including side curtain airbags. Toyota’s Star Safety System includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Smart Stop Technology (SST). It also has the available advanced functionality of Traffic Jam Assist when equipped with the Limited Tech Package. Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) is a driver-assistance feature that helps ease the burden of the stressful stop and-go of a traffic jam. With an active Drive Connect subscription or trial, this system provides hands-free control of the vehicle steering, braking and acceleration at speeds under 25 mph under certain conditions. TJA is designed for limited-access roadways, and the driver monitor camera must confirm the driver’s eyes are on the road for hands-free operation. The required Drive Connect subscription for Traffic Jam Assist comes as a 1-year trial on the Limited grade. Limited Warranty & Toyota Care Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against perforation from corrosion for 60 months with no mileage limitation. Hybrid-related components that require repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first from original date of first use when sold as new. The HV battery is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, and is transferrable across ownership. Toyota Crown Signia also comes with ToyotaCare, a plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance, for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 2 years of Roadside Assistance, regardless of mileage.

For added peace of mind, the AWD system provides additional traction when needed, like during inclement weather or while cornering. The AWD system’s capability comes from a dedicated rear electric drive motor generator that automatically supplies power to the rear wheels when needed. The 2025 Toyota Camry is expected to arrive at Toyota Dealerships in the Spring of 2024. Sleek New Generation The ninth generation Camry, designed by CALTY’s Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan studios, delivers a sleeker, athletic look to the popular sedan’s design. The distinctive hammerhead front fascia adds a fresh clean look that is sure to turn heads. All grades will feature slim LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights. The SE and XSE grades have sporty exterior styling with a sleek roofline and a chiseled body. Open-Style Cockpit Merging with the impeccable craftsmanship of Camry, the modern open-concept and refined materials offer a unique experience to the interior design of each grade. Beginning with the sport grades, the SE comes with SofTex®-trimmed seats featuring sporty bold white accents in either Boulder or Black while the XSE adds a standard leather-trimmed interior with artistic “shooting blade” patterned perforations found on both the side door trim and seating surfaces. The XSE interior is available in two colors: Black with blue lined perforations or the fan-favorite Cockpit Red. Before the winter weather arrives, we’ve got a checklist of items that will keep you safe on the road during inclement weather and icy conditions.  If you need support or to schedule a maintenance appointment, feel free to call our service center and we’ll help you get your car winter ready! Survey the windshield and wiper blades for any signs of damage.  Bring your car in for a windshield ding/crack repair before it gets chilly and cracks further.  Replace any damaged wiper blades with new ones.  Apply a thin coat of hydrophobic coating such as Rain-X.  And refill your wiper fluid with one designed for colder temps and is also hydrophobic. Schedule an appointment to have your brakes inspected and tires rotated so that you can drive confidently knowing you can stop short on a dime and be safe in treacherous weather conditions.  If they need service or replacing, prioritize this repair before the snow and icy weather rolls in. Test your heating and ventilation and defrosting systems to ensure they’re properly functioning.  There’s nothing worse than getting into a freezing cold car and having to commute!  And it’s no good to have a window fog up or freeze over while driving due to lack of properly working defrosters.  Call for a service appointment to have your mechanic get it working in tip-top shape before the temps drop too low. Check the underside of your car for rust, loose pipes, loose wires, or anything that might be wiggling and flopping about and causing an issue.  Schedule a maintenance appointment for anything that looks rusted, torn, flapping, or otherwise out of place.  This will prevent winter weather, ice, or cold temps from cracking items further and leading to costly repairs. Get your car professionally washed and polished.  When you get home, give the vehicle a once over to check the paint on your vehicle for ships, scratches, cracks, and other physical damage that has occurred over the last few seasons.  If you find any, clean the spots with rubbing alcohol or acetone and fill in the spaces with a pot of touch-up paint or paint pen from your car’s manufacturer or the local automotive supply shop.  This will help prevent rust and further damage from bad weather and road salts. Check your fluid levels and make sure everything is in tip-top shape.  Check hoses for any signs of wear and replace anything that is cracked, worn, or shows any sign of damage.  Schedule a regular oil and filter change.  Have the coolant/antifreeze flushed and filled if need be as well to prepare for the drop in temperatures. Check your tires for adequate tread depth, replace cracked valve caps, and ensure there are no signs of wear and tear that could lead to flat tires or cause you to lose control if stopping short in icy conditions.  Be sure to properly inflate your tires as well, as the decrease in temperatures can cause them to lose air pressure.  You may even want to consider a pair of winter weather tires if you live in an area prone to lots of snow. Gather supplies to create a winter-weather safety kit.  Your kit should include: an ice scraper and brush, a rechargeable battery jump start kit, a small or foldable snow shovel, a crank operated or battery powered flashlight with LED, a small container of road salt or kitty litter, a clean set of warm clothing, spare gloves and hat and scarf, a thick warm blanket and a towel or two.  In case you get stranded, all of these things can come in handy to keep you safe, dry, and warm until help arrives.  For an added bonus, you can get a pair of Tire Traction mats to place under the tires and afford you some extra grip on the road

Did you know that every minute, around 26 vehicles are recycled in the US per minute? Conversations around ecological conservation, global warming, and renewable energy are becoming more and more frequent as politicians, citizens, and businesses work together to create a greener future.  In light of that, we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate America Recycles Day by highlighting efforts the automotive industry is doing in order to recycle and reuse metal and other materials in efforts to be more eco-conscious! more Automotive recycling accounts for 14 million tons of recycled steel, or the equivalent of more than 13 million cars.  In fact, vehicles are the most recycled item in all of the US, with around 95% of decommissioned and defunct vehicles being recycled annually.  More than 27 million vehicles are recycled around the globe annually, and 12 million of those are from right here in the US! Automotive recycling industry in the United States provides jobs to over 100,000 people, and nearly $25 billion in revenue.  And the North American (US/CA) auto recycling saves 85 million oil barrels each year, and enough reclaimed steel to create 13 million new cars! Everything from steel and aluminum to car batteries (a whopping 98% are recycled) windshield glass, carpets,rubber hoses, and even seat belts can be repurposed or recycled!  Even tires can be recycled and repurposed into new goods such as rubber for shoes and sandals, filler for playground surfaces, etc.   Experts anticipate that scrap metal recycling will total upwards of $60 billion by the end of 2021, with about 60% of scrap metals being recycled from the automotive industry over the next 10 years. Did you know that 86% of your car’s parts can be recycled? In honor of National Seatbelt Day, we’re sharing these important facts and hoping that it inspires you to prioritize safety.    We’ve covered tips and tricks for roadside safety, proper car maintenance, and plenty of road trip ideas, but today we’re taking it back to the basics and fundamentals of driver safety: seatbelts. We love our customers, and want you to reach all of your exciting destinations safely and soundly. Happy driving! more Important Facts about Seatbelts, Safety Restraints, and Highway Safety According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission, an impressive 91.6% of Americans understand safety and used their seatbelts in 2022. We hope to see that number rise even higher for 2023’s survey. Out of 26,535 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed in 2021, a whopping 50% of them were not wearing their seatbelts or properly restrained. Buckling up is vital to keeping you safe and secure, preventing you from being ejected from the vehicle upon impact or crash (more than 75% who are thrown from vehicles die from those critical injuries, but only 1% of seatbelt wearers were thrown from vehicles). Seatbelt usage also plays a part in preventing death or severe injury from impacts with airbag contact. Airbags are not a replacement for seat belts, but rather are there to work in tandem and further reduce injury or chances of death. Making sure to use proper safety restraints and buckle up can reduce risk of fatal injury by about 45% and moderate to critical injury risk by 50%! It’s important to buckle up each and every time, no matter how long or short your trip is - in fact, most crashes happen within 25 miles of your home. (NHTSA) Since 1975, it’s estimated that proper use of seatbelts has saved more than 374,000 lives. Getting caught without your seatbelt can not only cost you in local or state motor vehicle infractions, but driving without it can also increase your car insurance rates by almost 6%. Illinois Seat Belt Law requires all drivers and passengers 8 years and older to wear safety belts; passengers under the age of 8 must be secured in child restraint systems. In Wisconsin, Children under four are required to be restrained in an appropriate child safety restraint, and all passengers over the age of 4 must wear safety belts. Plus: It is generally recommended that children should continue to remain secured in car seats and/or booster seats until they have outgrown the size and weight limits of their booster seats, or have reached a size where they can fit properly in the seat with safe seat belt usage. Generally, this is between ages of 8 and 12. Additionally, all children under 13 should remain in the back seat to reduce risk. Did you know that use of seatbelts and vehicle restraints drops by 40% in children when parents don’t properly use their seat belts? 57% of 13 and 14 year olds who were involved in fatal crashes in 2020 were unrestrained. Setting a good example for younger drivers and younger passengers can save their lives! (NHTSA) Pet safety restraints and seat belts are also a vital safety measure to reduce distracted driving, as well as preventing their death or injury, and that of those passenger and driving. Did you know that a 10lb dog will exert roughly 500lbs of force in a vehicle crash of 50mph, whereas an 80lb dog in a crash at a mere 30mph will exert 2400lbs of force? Additionally, airbags can also cause death or injury if your pet comes into contact with them while driving!  Even if your pet is extremely calm, please place them in a safety crate, pet-safe seatbelt, or other restraint to keep them and you safe and healthy.  Options can include a pet harness/safety belt, a hard-sided travel crate, a pet vehicle seat, a vehicle pet barrier between front and rear seats, or a soft sided travel crate.

It’s the season of giving and giving back, and since this week is National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, we’d like to celebrate by illustrating some amazing ideas for you to give back and help out other people.  One of the most important values to us here at Classic is to support our community. This can include fundraising efforts, donations to local pantries, collecting toy drives or clothing drives to those in need, and more. The world could always do with a little more kindness, so why not use today’s blog list as a springboard! Here are some great ways to inspire others around you, and get you started with thinking in a community service oriented mindset: more Make a donation to a local food bank or host a food drive in your neighborhood. Encourage your friends, neighbors and loved ones to donate non-perishables to your efforts or add to your donation bin. Remember to include shelf-stable specialty goods like allergen friendly ingredients, gluten free food, and even seasonings! These items can help folks in need more than you’d realize, by providing accommodations for specialty diets, salt-free flavorings to those bland canned and box goods, and are items not usually available by non-profit funding.  Additionally, consider donating some pet food as well, since every family member deserves to be happy, healthy, and have a full belly. Create a Little Free Pantry for your home or local park. Stock the free pantry with shelf stable goods, toiletries, hygiene products, and refill it often.  This small act of community giving provides easy access to healthy foods and necessities without having to fill out lengthy applications for funding, stand in long lines, or other prohibitive measures. Do some volunteer work! Donating your time  within your local community soup kitchen and/or shelter can do a world of good. Volunteer your cooking prowess at your local soup kitchen to help shop, prepare, organize, and serve meals to those who need it most.  Volunteer your construction, carpentry or woodworking skills to building tiny homes, Habitat for Humanity, community rebuilding projects after natural disasters, and other nonprofit housing groups. Voice your support in local, state, and federal elections. Exercising your right to vote is a vital part of the process to improve local legislature to ensure public assistance programming, special grants, and local non-profits receive essential funding. Electing  lawmakers and legislature which support community-based care programs, free and low-cost school lunches, public housing, and affordable medical/psychiatric care programs makes a big difference. Put together some care package bags of allergen-friendly snacks and toiletries. You can drop them off at the local domestic shelter or homeless shelter or you can give them out to people in need as you meet them.  You can also include a little card with the names of local assistance organizations or safe shelters in the area.  Consider in cold weather months to add hats, mittens, scarves, and thick socks to your packages. Toss in some gift cards to local food stores or ride share services to help the folks sustain their safety and access resources. Help a “stranger.” There’s lots of ways to give back even if you don’t have the largest social circle.  This can look like helping someone load groceries into their car, paying for someone’s meal behind you at the drive through, paying in advance for the coffee of the person in line after you, leave an extra large tip at the next restaurant or bar you visit, leave a “Just because” gift card on someone’s windshield for a few dollars to the store they’re parked at, call the local utility company and pay off someone’s bill, or even donate some brand new books or clothing to a local family shelter. Since its first episode aired on this day in 1969, Sesame Street has been an indispensable part of children’s and families’ lives all around the world!  Its colorful world filled with human and muppet counterparts has provided a charming, captivating, and empathetic format for education and empowerment of the youth. more Sesame Street was born of a need to provide children in urban areas with accessible, diverse, and inclusive educational resources. It’s so beloved, in fact, that it’s now broadcast globally to more than 190 million children  in 70 different languages across 150 countries with about 30 different international co-productions. And since we love all things cars, we thought we’d pay a special focus today to the wonderful things Sesame Street has done to connect children to the world of transportation, movement, STEAM based activities, and the automotive industry!  Our beloved cast of muppets have taught children about engineering, physics, as well as road safety from driving to seatbelts.  Plus, it’s also created some of the most memorable vehicles and methods of muppety transportation! Sesame Street is no stranger to introducing kids to automotive concepts, highlighting a series of classic and vintage (then new and popular) daily drivers, highlighting everything from a Taxi to a station wagon to cargo vans and more!  Did you know that Sesame Street also featured a lot of real-world vehicles over the years? Let’s sing along with Elmo in these wonderful videos about cars, trucks, and more as well as road and travel safety: We love this segment from early Sesame Street in which Grover is a Taxi driver! It’s a very funny way to introduce kids into Taxi etiquette, Taxis as part of city culture and transportation, and the way car services work.  It’s also a very sweet nod to the personality and hustle and bustle of “city culture.” In 1975, Sesame Street and CTW introduced “The Countmobile”, helmed by none other than our number loving Transylvanian pal, The Count!  Borrowing designs from retro vehicles, a vampire coffin, and the vintage Batmobile designs, this unique vehicle was used to illustrate the importance of road rules, driver/passenger etiquette, and pedestrian safety to youngsters.  Ten years later in 1985, the vehicle was upgraded for the Follow That Bird movie, and built on the bones of a 1930s Frazer Nash replica, and sported a very smart pair of purple and black bat wings. We also love this Let’s Go Driving with Elmo feature with special guess Taye Diggs illustrating the power of imaginative play to help reinforce safe driving habits as well as observing our environment while on the road. Elmo and Rosita are going to the museum with Papa Elmo, and have jumped into the car and stepped into an unexpected episode of Guy Smiley’s travel gameshow, for a round of “I Spy”! Another classic car game that kids will love playing together, and will be extra excited to try now that their favorite characters have demonstrated!  Not only that, but it encourages the powers of observation while driving and passenging, and observing internal and external environments! By employing the element of imaginative play, each safety lesson on Sesame STreet is made accessible to young viewers. Using our pals Elmo and Abby to explain the concept of seatbelts  is a gentle, friendly way to talk about the importance of safety. This wonderful clip from Elmo and Abby explains the basics of car safety to kids. T his segment with Abby, Cookie, Guy Smiley, and Cookie’s Mom is a surefire hit! Introducing kids to the concept of boredom busters and family togetherness through a round of “Smiley Says” can help them connect and thwart the doldrums, while showing their favorite characters buckled up and in their car seats as safe passengers. In this segment of Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures from the 2010s, Bert and Ernie are working as car mechanics. Of course, wacky hijinks ensue as they highlight the basics of car maintenance and the pitfalls of not keeping up with a reliable service schedule, haha!
