You’ll find all manner of entertainment and excitement on today’s list, and of course, we welcome your own suggestions in the comments section on all our social media.  Check it out and be well on your way to rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation for this last blast of Summer fun! more Out of State Excursions Wehr Nature Center, Wisconsin is a 220 acre nature preserve in Hales Corners Wisconsin outside of the Milwaukee area.  It’s located inside the 660 acres of Whitnall Park, and has 5 miles of meticulously maintained trails which loop in, around, and through different regions.  Choose from the Lake Loop, Woodland Trail, Family Friendly Trail, Red Trail-Grasslands Trail, and the Wetland Trail.  They’re rated by difficulty, so you can choose the option that best suits your experience as a hiker and trail rider.  It’s a beautiful area that has planted prairie land and savannas filled with waving tall grasses, flowering herbs and plants, and plenty of spaces for birds, furry critters, and more to call it home. Forest Exploration Center in Wauwatosa, WI is a fantastic place for visitors of all ages to come and get an up-close look at the forest landscape of Wisconsin!  Its purpose is to educate the community about sustainable forestry, educational programming, and first-hand experiences through immersive trail walks and exploration.  It’s 1-mile trail loop is also wheelchair accessible, which is a wonderful option for inclusive travel needs.  The facility has both indoor and outdoor events at its interactive science center through its exhibits and rotation of programming. Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin is a bite-sized dose of natural wonders!  This award-winning botanical garden consists of 16 acres of impeccably groomed outdoor gardens and walking paths, and The Bolz Conservatory which is a 10,000 square foot indoor tropical garden.  You can check out the sunken garden, herb garden, tower garden, perennial garden, rose garden and so much more! Devil’s Lake State Park, Wisconsin is a woodsy, outdoorsy state park which sees 3 million visitors a year!  You’ll find ample opportunities for boating, canoeing, kayaking, as well as swimming, fishing, and other watersports.  Those who prefer to remain on land can enjoy hiking the many trails to scenic overlooks such as the 500-foot quartzite bluffs, or taking their bikes on a challenging trail ride.  You can stop in for the day, book a cabin or hotel offsite, or check out the campgrounds at the park itself. Killsnake Wildlife Area, Wisconsin is seated between multiple counties and spans a vast 7,000 acres between them!  If you’re looking to enjoy an immersive nature experience with less crowds and quieter foot traffic, this is the spot for you.  With plenty of landscapes to choose from such as prairie grasslands, uplands with wetland-grassland areas, a hardwood forest, cedar swamp, agricultural landscape, wetland restoration projects, and even a bog, you’ll have lots of variety for exploration.  As for activities, you can enjoy birding, canoeing, hiking, hunting (if in season, please adhere to posted signage and check WDNR resources), trapping, gathering of wild edibles, and plenty of opportunities for nature photography. In State Adventures Starved Rock State Park, Illinois is located along the Illinois river, and home to gorgeous sandstone canyons created by glacial melts hundreds of thousands of years ago.  You can enjoy wildlife watching and birding, hiking, river cruises, trolley tours, and swimming.  Depending on the rainfall and the season, you can also enjoy multiple waterfalls in the following canyon areas: St. Louis, French, and Wildcat canyons.  Looking for scenic views? Check out Lover’s Leap Overlook!  It’s peaceful, tranquil, and a majestic site to visit that your whole family will enjoy. Morrison Rockwood State Park, Illinois is a gorgeous place for family and friends to gather and drink in the last days of Summer!  With nearly 100 camping sites and the ever-popular Lakeview Picnic Area, it’s a fantastic place to meet up with loved ones for a picnic meal, and get some fresh air and detox from electronics, screens, and the rat race of the work week.  You can enjoy ample activities such as hiking and biking trails, boating and fishing, horseback riding, and then some.  And if you're looking for spacious blue skies, crisp, clean air, and a little solitude you’ll certainly find it on any of the 1,164 acres of this gorgeous Illinois State Park area. Heidecke Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, Illinois is a 1300 acre preserve area within the Illinois State Parks system.  If you’re into fishing and hunting, you’ll be in heaven at this state park; adhere to posted state and local area guidelines for what’s in season to hunt or fish.  Take in the wildlife at the Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area, or head out onto the lake for an afternoon of boating and fishing.  Hike any of the beautiful trails along the shores and into the forests.  Be sure to check the rules for specifics on watercraft, as there are limits to what type/size can be used. Galena, Illinois is a fantastic place to stop over for those who aren’t so interested in Nature and the Great Outdoors. You’ll have a blast jumping back in the past by touring places such as Ulyssess S. Grant Home, the Jo Daviess County Historical Society, Galena Museum, Old Blacksmith Shop, and many more historical sites.  Enjoy the finer side of life with a trip to Galena Cellars Winery, Blaum Bros Distilling Co., and take in the fine art at the Chicago Athenaeum.  If you’re looking for unique places to shop for yourself or even to find fun things for gifting during the upcoming holidays, the downtown area is full of unique nooks and interesting shops!  It’s a quaint little town rich in history, culture, and fun.

School is starting and many young drivers are taking their first steps to independence by driving to their classes and after school jobs, social events, sports games, etc.  If you’ve got multiple teens in your household, the car swap shuffle can get a bit tiring and hectic!  As a result, you may be considering buying an additional vehicle for the family, or for your young driver to have to themselves. Many families will share cars with new drivers, or will pass down an older model as parents upgrade their ride, and as a result will want a budget friendly option. Shop around and test-drive multiple models, and see what type of vehicle that suits your needs is available at different price points. If you need a loan, younger drivers will require a co-signer due to lack of credit history and less stable employment history.  Be sure to talk this out as a family, and decide the best course of action ahead of loan applications. Many loans also come with title fees, a down payment requirement, and other costs, so be sure to do your research on that. Paying for a car up front can save you a lot of money in the long run.  Set a budget that you can comfortably afford to pay via cash or check, and avoid costly interest fees on loans.  Remember to include title fees/transfers, registration costs, and initial insurance payments in that budget. Figure out your daily mileage (home to school and back, school to work and back, average weekend visits with friends) and determine your average gas costs. Choose a car that fits your monthly budget with good gas mileage or higher electric charge mileage. Research average insurance coverage costs and payments for the make/model of cars you’re looking at, and best coverage that ensures your safety and fits within your budget. This can be a monthly, quarterly, or yearly expense depending on payment plan selection. Decide whether you’re going for a new or used ca r.  Most new drivers opt for budget-friendly used cars, but there are pros and cons to each. Weigh both as a family and decide which you prefer. Newer cars are the most advanced options, and have lower associated repair costs, but they do require financing or leasing and more expensive insurance. Older used cars can be a more economical option up front, you’ll have a wider variety of makes/models to choose from, but there is always a higher risk for repairs and maintenance. Used cars from 2013 and higher will fit most any budget and will have ideal safety features such as Anti-Lock Brakes, Traction control, and stability control. Newer cars within the last 3-5 years may also be equipped with Forward-Collision warning, Blind-spot monitoring, Heads-Up Displays, voice activated infotainment systems, and other driver-assist technologies. With the onset of COVID19 pandemic, both New and Used vehicle sales have been impacted, so plan ahead for potential wait times on specific models and features, and consider a flexible shopping plan with multiple selections in case your first choice is out of stock. Do thorough research on your options. After you’ve reached a budget plan, it’s time to consider a few things, such as what will be your daily usage, what features do you need, are you the sole driver or sharing, etc. Think about what kind of car you’ll need: will it be comfortable for long distances, a vehicle with room for multiple passengers, lots of room for athletic equipment, etc.  Make sure all of your car searches factor in the following: safety features, reliability and longevity, fuel economy, tech and digital features, vehicle resale value. Choose a vehicle that has a Good Crash-Test Rating via Kelley Blue Book verified sources (IIHS and NHTSA); these test for roof strength, head restraints and seats, front and side impact damage, roller damage, etc. Read all financial paperwork and sales agreements very carefully. If you’re a younger driver, be sure to bring along a parent or guardian who can help you navigate the agreements and negotiate your best deals. Decide what features are must-haves and what you can do without. Each make and model year of car has different features and amenities. It’s up to you and your lifestyle to find the right match of indispensable electronic and convenience features. Consider things like: Do you need a GPS?  Can you do without satellite radio or do you require digital interfaces?  Will a hybrid, all electric, or gas vehicle be best for your daily driving needs?  Do you need room for equipment such as sports gear, bikes, luggage, school supplies, etc? Freedom, versatility and exploration are words that can be associated with the new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, a vehicle that gives passengers the opportunity to pursue adventures with the adaptability and durability of an SUV. While those qualities are befitting for the compact crossover, they are also consistent with dedicated artists and their creations. As an extension of the “Just Right” Corolla Cross campaign, Brooklyn-based artists Wade and Leta developed a series of art installations titled “Paint Your Own Path” in collaboration with Toyota to highlight the first-ever Corolla Cross. They took their creative lens and transformed the campaign with sculptures full of patterns and colors. more Wade Jeffree and Leta Sobierajski — a couple who share a taste for quirky aesthetics and crisp design — combine traditional graphic design elements with photography, art and styling to create utterly unique visuals. Their work is incredibly diverse, ranging from conventional identities to brilliantly extraordinary compositions. Sobierajski describes the sculptures as precarious because of the way the spheres and cubes are stacked on each other, but the way that they align feels just right. The fun colors give the sculptures a feel of freedom, and the size makes them seem larger than life. The art installation for Corolla Cross gradually grew over the course of three months at Toyota-sponsored music festivals. Their installation began at the Shaky Knees festival on April 29 in Atlanta with two sculptures — and from there the art continued to grow with two added sculptures at the Lovers & Friends music festival in Las Vegas on May 14 and a fifth sculpture at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee on June 16. To complete their tour, the art installation at Bonnaroo included a wrapped Corolla Cross with their design. “The sculptures are designed so that you can walk in and around them,” says Jeffree. “It’s about going off the beaten path and finding something new and exploring that serendipity of travel when you’re in a car that can go anywhere.” From Sculptures to Murals Additionally, Toyota’s recent “Just Right” campaign extension featured local influencer artists: Trav MSK in Los Angeles, Joseph “Sentrock” Perez in Chicago and ELLE in New York City. ELLE’s Corolla Cross and mural in New York City “My piece was focused on my favorite parts of New York City, which is the bright lights, reflections and finding beauty in the darkness,” said ELLE. “From my zoomed in perspective of life in the city, it was fun to take that inspiration and translate it both onto the vehicle as well as the wall in a way the encapsulates the beauty.” For the activation, each artist was asked to create a unique and meaningful mural inspired by their respective city — while tying in Toyota. Additionally, a Corolla Cross was custom wrapped with a design reflecting the artist’s signature style to further amplify the partnership. “The inspiration for all my work is documenting how technology is pushing business out of the physical space,” says Trav, who hides his face and prefers to let his artwork speak for itself. “And with this one specifically, I wanted to create something that almost felt like a road trip within the composition of the wall that it was going to live on. I wanted to have glimpses of the mural, but I didn’t want to pull the mural off and put it on the car because what works on a wall doesn’t necessarily work on a vehicle.” In Chicago, Sentrock’s custom-wrapped car was parked outside the famed Wrigley Field baseball stadium for a couple of weeks to highlight Toyota’s ongoing partnership with the Chicago Cubs. For him, being able to create murals and display his artwork is a privilege. He also believes art can make a difference. Artists are able to transcend so many different social levels. We’re able to unlock a lot of those challenges with our art.” The creative works of the participating artists exemplified the Corolla Cross ethos — freedom in the form of artistic expression, versatility in unique perspectives and visual exploration for viewers. The murals represented the artists’ hometown appeal while staying true to their artistic roots and points of view — similar to how the new Corolla Cross complements the ever-popular sedan. Simply put, the creative artwork and the compact crossover are both extensions of beloved places and trusted legacies. “Collaborating with these talented artists was the perfect way to elevate the 2022 Corolla Cross,” says Ann Dragovits, media manager for integrated marketing operations at Toyota Motor North America. “Their creative works illustrate what the SUV represents: boldness, versatility, and the freedom to move while also pulling inspiration from each artist’s local community. Iconic American Restaurants day was founded in 2020 by Bob Matthews as a way to celebrate the iconic restaurants of America both past and present.  During the early months of the Covid-19 Pandemic, many restaurants and local eateries struggled to make ends meet and keep their employees safe.  The line cooks, chefs, prep staff, cleaning staff, and other service workers of the industry provided essential services and meals to so many of us!  It is our pleasure to highlight some of the most vital businesses of our community on this special day.  Remember to tip as much as you can whenever you go out to eat or order a delivery meal, because these folks are working hard to bring you delicious, fresh food because they care! Let’s Explore Some of the Most Iconic Restaurants in the Country, Past and Present Alinea in Chicago, IL - This restaurant has retained 3 Michelin stars for 12 years running, helmed by Chef Grant Achatz.  It features a multi-course tasting menu of New American Cuisine in the Lincoln Park neighbourhood of Chicago. Gino’s East in Chicago, IL - If you’re looking for some of the Best Chicago Deep Dish style pizza in the area, Gino’s East on Magnificent Mile is the place to be!  This flagship location is located in the heart of the city’s bustling culture, and has a comedy bar with weekly performances as well as a third floor terrace. Katz’s Deli in New York City, NY -  Katz is a legend in the culinary world for its absolutely iconic pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, and its plethora of Jewish Deli Classics.  Featured in many television series and movies, and of course a popular tourist destination, this is a can’t-miss eatery on your next visit to Manhattan. Peter Luger Steak House in New York City, NY -  This steakhouse has stood the test of time and avoided succumbing to the ever-popular world of credit cards and checks, remaining a cash only setting since its inception.  This classy Brooklyn steakhouse now has a location in Great Neck Long Island, but tradition stands strong: Aged Top Quality Steak is served Old World German style with old-fashioned waiters and waitresses. Louis’ Lunch in New Haven Connecticut - A neighborhood staple since 1895, Louis’ Lunch has been service good ol’ fashioned american hamburgers to happy customers for decades.  In fact, they even claim the notoriety of having invented the hamburger sandwich, served on crispy, crunchy toast! Husk in Charleston, SC - This iconic restaurant located in historic downtown Charleston specializes in elevated southern food with a farm to table concept and locally sourced heirloom ingredients. Housed in a 2-story 19th century southern home The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN - With nearly 40 years in the business, Bluebird Cafe is a staple of Nashville culture.  The venue features up-and-coming musicians alongside hit musical performers, and combines that with an intimate setting of a gourmet cafe.  Nearly 70,000 visitors come through the cafe each year! The Walrus and the Carpenter in Seattle, WA - Named after two characters from “Alice in Wonderland,” this restaurant in the Ballard neighbourhood of Seattle is a top notch oyster bar and seafood restaurant with locally sourced, fresh ingredients.  The chefs here have married the best of both worlds with a classy seafood restaurant meets fishing pub.

A valuable instrument for shaping any project, TBP is also a boon for helping to shape young minds and sharpening the critical thinking essential to successful problem-solving. Through an innovative mentoring project that challenges students to “start their impossible,” in a nod to Toyota’s inspirational global campaign, students in the Plano, Texas, ISD Academy Program learn to use TBP and supercharge their futures. more A Guide to the Future Each school year, 100 academy seniors engage in a 12-week project under the guidance of Toyota employees. Managers, such as Chris Tucker from Toyota’s External Logistics Group, work with the students at the Academy’s Plano campus, located near Toyota Motor North America headquarters, with the goal of exposing them to mentorship, resources and skills. The program was launched in 2019 by Toyota employee Michaela Sears, Social Innovation Mobility Senior Analyst, to teach high school seniors the first five steps of TBP and how to apply them to different real-world business challenges. “TBP is a fundamental skill taught to Toyota employees to help solve complex business problems,” says Sears. “Teaching this framework to the seniors not only adds to their regular curriculum it prepares them for whatever they choose to do after high school.” As business and society continue their rapid states of change, training the next generation of innovators is critical. “Mentorship is extremely powerful,” continues Sears. “The learners begin the project unsure and uncomfortable, and after weeks of coaching by their mentors, they exude confidence and are ready to apply TBP to their next project.” Steps to Success The core curriculum of the mentoring program is the Toyota Business Practices framework, laid out in eight sequential steps. Because the three final steps are based on implementation, the students practice only the first five. Once these steps are learned, understood and practiced, they can be applied to just about any problem in business—or in life. Real-World Solutions As part of the most recent cohort’s senior presentation project, Tucker worked with participants to brainstorm possible improvements to the aerodynamics and fuel economy of a 53-foot tractor-trailer. The students tried their hands at using a blend of Computer Aided Design (CAD), modeling; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills; and TBP principles to find a solution. The results? Their impossible was more than started. “The mentees’ thinking ventured boldly way outside the box and put forth solutions that weren’t even on my radar,” says Tucker. “It’s amazing. They look at things so differently. They’re two or three steps ahead and really helped with the trailer’s fuel economy.” In addition to helping to solve concrete problems, Tucker says the mentorship program provides soft skills, including exposure to potential careers and new industries. While growing their professional networks and boosting their confidence and workforce readiness, the high school seniors get a chance to practice these new techniques in real-world simulations. Develop, Evaluate, Elevate In its commitment to creating pathways to success and developing a diverse workforce ready to meet the demands of the future, Toyota has pioneered several mentoring and internship programs, such as the Toyota Learning Academy, which brings reading, STEM, and financial literacy curricula to underserved schools, as well as overall skills to help prepare for college and careers. In the Lancaster, Texas, ISD program, 150 teachers and 2,200 students have already participated in the Academy program. The E3 Engage Mentorship program, also in Plano, serves its mission to engage, empower and elevate students. Over five-plus years, 180 mentors have helped thousands of middle and high school students through courses designed to build a growth mindset to learn how to do and achieve more. Additionally, E3 is now supporting students in West Dallas as part of the new West Dallas STEM School. The Road Ahead Toyota’s lens on the future is so much wider than students, families and educators can often access. STEM training, strong logical and creative thinking, plus a readiness to lead are needed to evolve the company and the automotive industry as a whole. As Tucker attests, “Getting that exposure and experience at Toyota and making key contacts here opens up the opportunity for students to potentially join us in the future.” The program opens the students’ eyes to job opportunities they may never have imagined before.” And that’s a process that’s worth sharing everywhere. We’re Celebrating National Radio Day with hop back in time to the invention of the Car Radio we all know and love today!  Love listening to music on your car’s stereo to help pass the time on a long drive? Since the early 1900s, radios have been an omnipresent piece of tech in American homes and businesses.  Nearly every household has at least one, relying on them to deliver news, entertainment, weather, and more to keep families up to date on what’s what in the world!  But who had the brilliant idea to take this show on the road and put radios in cars? The invention of the Car Radio is credited to Paul Galvin. more As is the case with most things, necessity is often the mother of invention, and the late 1920s/early 1930s stock market crash meant the brothers needed to innovate or lose their livelihood. And thus, the car radio was born!  Galvin and his brother originally started out in Chicago, maintaining a manufacturing facility and brand producing home radios which ran on household electricity in lieu of battery operation. The Galvin Bros business gained a lot of traction, and what once began as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928 was transformed in 1930 into the globally recognized brand known as Motorola! The men worked together with a radio parts company to create a durable, affordable audio device and technology to take their equipment on the road.  In 1930, Galvin drove a whopping 850 miles from Chicago down to Atlantic City to demonstrate the wonders of his in-car radio.  Unlike today’s consolidated models with a small dashboard footprint, early car radio parts were installed both inside the car and under the floor. Although the car radio had such humble beginnings, modern amenities and technological advancements have created the infotainment system!  It allows us to enjoy movies, music, podcasts and so much more with just the simple swipe of our finger or tap of an app. Pretty cool, right? But what if you’re looking for something more?  We’ve searched high and low to bring you the best of the best in interesting, unique, and exciting places to see and experience in Indianapolis in addition to the traditional stop-offs. Check it out on today’s blog! more Memorable and Unique Places to Visit in Indianapolis The Market Street Catacombs are a surprising and unique location in Indianapolis!  Indiana Landmarks, in partnership with Indianapolis City Market, offer an interesting guided tour of this underground destination.  These historic remains are all that’s left of the former Tomlinson Hall, which burned down in January of 1958.  It’s important to note that this site may not be accessible for all individuals, and due to the nature of the environment all tourists must wear face coverings over the mouth and nose during the 30 minute tour. Tickets should be purchased in advance. The Indianapolis Moon Trees are commemorative trees grown from seeds of a sycamore tree that were taken to the moon and back on the Apollo 14 mission by Astronaut Stuart A. Roosa.  There are just four of these special trees left in Indiana: Lincoln City, Cannelton, and Tell City. The Indiana Medical History Museum is on the site of the former Central State Hospital; the main museum center is located in what was formerly the Old Pathology Building.  The museum encourages visitors to explore the teaching amphitheater, former laboratories, photographical records, the historic library, records room, autopsy room, and so much more. There’s a plethora of unusual and interesting specimens on display for an up-close-and-personal look at the history of medicine, disease, and mental health treatment. The Museum of Miniatures is a wholly unique experience in fine art and craftsmanship.  The museum is filled to the brim with scale replicas of real life buildings, furniture, scenery, and historically accurate representations of architecture.  The facilities are open to the public and created to preserve display scale models, vintage miniatures, and antique dollhouses. Crown Hill Cemetery is a historic site and green-space, and the third largest non-government cemetery in the US.  Whether you’re visiting a memorial or grave site of those buried here, participating in a historical tour or special event, or even enjoying an afternoon of quiet reflection on the grounds, it’s a memorable experience. The site is run by the Crown Hill Heritage Foundation and aims to preserve and celebrate architectural, cultural, and natural elements by restoring historic buildings, mausoleums, and preserving artwork and monuments.  The groundskeepers also dedicate their time to preserving the landscaped areas and planting new trees. Wolf Creek Habitat is located just outside of the city in Brookville Indiana.  This gorgeous preserve is a wolf rescue and educational center that is supported by donations and volunteer efforts.  You can help by purchasing tickets to visit the wolves and take a tour, booking a photography session, or even planning a trip and staying on the grounds. It’s incredibly important that you book your tickets in advance, as the facilities are privately managed and entry is by admission only.  It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with wildlife, learn about conservation efforts, and help the animals stay safe and healthy! Indiana Caverns Family Adventure Park is in nearby Corydon, and your one-stop shopping for excitement, entertainment, and a lifetime of family memories!  Enjoy an adventure zip-lining and free-falling via the “Bat Chaser” or explore underground in a cave tour by climbing, crawling, or even kayaking.  They’ve even got escape rooms if your family loves a hands-on challenge of solving mysteries and puzzles. Virginia B Fairbanks Art and Nature Park is a 100 acre public art park located on the grounds of Newfields Campus.  This haven for contemporary art is free to explore, and gives families a chance to observe the intersection of art and nature up close and personal.  Enjoy the incredible sculpture installations, a 35-acre lake, and the largest native pollinator meadow in Indianapolis. The 500 Museum is located on the grounds of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. On non-even days, you can access the museum for free which makes it a fantastic budget-friendly option for families!  Enjoy a 2 hour guided tour of the museum and an opportunity to sit inside a real Indy car.  It’s an incredible walk through the history of that auto industry and professional racing. The Speedrome is a small car racing track that’s home to the World Figure 8 Race, and other specialty events in stock-car racing, competitive biking, and even go-kart competitions.  The track hosts a wide array of events that are sure to please Gearheads of any age! The Doctor Who Store and Mini-Museum in nearby Camby is a delightful stop for fans of the classic Science Fiction TV show.  You’ll get to snap some picks with a full-size Tardis, play some Doctor Who pinball, and explore several cases of collectibles and memorabilia! Naptown Roller Derby is a flat-track roller derby league and association in Indianapolis, founded in 2006.  The facilities are open to anyone looking to learn the foundations of roller derby as a sport, as well as hosting multiple events and competitive bouts that are open to attend with admission! Strikes & Spares Entertainment Center is a bowling center and family-fun and community center with go-karts, bumper cars, mini-golf, and an arcade!  It’s top tier rainy-day entertainment for all ages, and great for families. Hall of Heroes Super Hero Museum is located just outside of the South Bend area, and is a haven for all things nerdy when it comes to superheroes in print on the page, film, animation, and its 80+ year History! It’s also the only Comic Book and Superhero Museum in the world. Visiting this museum will delight kids and the kid-at-heart, It’s small, but charming and another budget friendly option for your vacation. Shiojiri Niwa Garden is an absolutely stunning Japanese strolling garden that symbolizes the connection between Mishawaka in Indiana and Shiojiri City in Japan.  The 1.3 acre garden has three bridges, a teahouse pavilion, more than 20 varieties of plants and flowers, 200+ boulders, and gorgeous waterscaping. Civil Rights Heritage Center is located at Indiana University South Bend.  It serves as a community resource for local grassroots activism efforts, a meeting space for local coalitions, and a space for African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ groups to organize.  It’s an inclusive living museum that aims to preserve and honor the past and commit to seeing progress in social justice, equity and equality, and contemporary social issues. Thistleberry Farm is the perfect place to snap some family photos, and make memories to last a lifetime!  Tour the lavender fields or sunflower fields depending on the season, or enjoy the autumnal activities of corn mazes, hayrides, pony rides, and more. Children’s Museum of South Bend is an exciting, interesting destination for families to enjoy STEAM activities together and engage in a multi-sensory experience!  The facilities include wonderful exhibits dedicated to environmental sciences, career exploration, a miniature city, toddler sensory activities, and more. The Indiana Whiskey Company is a veteran owned local distillery dedicated to small-batch craft whiskey that’s brewed and distilled on site.  Everything is locally sourced, including materials and machinery used tin the process!  It’s also a bar and tasting room.  Great fun for adults looking for a night out and a little low key social time. Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure rises high into the sky at 456 feet tall and a whopping 128mph maximum speed. Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point is just slightly under the Kingda Ka ride in stats and it boasts a staggering 420 feet tall and hits a wild 120mph! Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain stands at a towering 235 feet tall, and features a 255 foot drop through an underground tunnel as you careen into 120 feet of darkness at 85mph! X2 Coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain rises to 215 feet in height and a dizzying 76mph speed, but what sets it apart from its counterparts is that it’s the “world’s first 4th dimension roller coaster” with independently rotating seats on either side of the track! Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain reaches speeds of 100mph and boasts a 415 foot drop, but there’s a catch…you ride it backwards! Intimidator 305 coaster at Kings Dominion towers above its peers at 305 feet in height with a jaw dropping max speed of 90mph! SheiKra at Busch Gardens Tampa reaches a top speed of 70mph with a 200ft max height and a 90 degree vertical drop, yikes!! Valravn at Cedar Point reaches speeds of 75mph and a height of 223 feet, and used to be one of the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest dive rollercoasters! Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg climbs to a dizzying height of 205 feet with a zippy speed of 71mph. El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure Jackson is 181 feet tall with a 176 foot drop and a max speed of 70mph which is very impressive for a classic wooden coaster! Fury 325 at Carowinds rises to a harrowing height of 325 feet and furious speeds of 95mph and includes a zippy dive underground into a tunnel beneath the park’s entrance! Built to deliver an intuitive driving experience, this new premium sedan brings powerful acceleration and confident handling, along with supreme comfort for a sophisticated ride, all wrapped in a bold new design. It is also the first Toyota sedan to offer the HYBRID MAX System, Toyota’s performance hybrid with power that drivers will feel. Available in three grades: XLE, Limited and Platinum, Toyota Crown will offer a choice of two different hybrid powertrains: HYBRID MAX or the fourth generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS). The HYBRID MAX powertrain, exclusive to the Platinum grade, is Toyota’s all-new performance hybrid that puts out a manufacturer estimated 340 net horsepower. Paired with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and a direct shift 6-speed automatic transmission, HYBRID MAX produces powerful torque at low RPM for sporty, exhilarating driving and has a manufacturer-estimated 28 MPG combined city/highway fuel economy rating. XLE and Limited grades are equipped with THS, a highly efficient hybrid system with a newly developed, high-output bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery that can achieve a manufacturer-estimated 38 MPG combined city/highway rating. Built on a newly developed chassis based on Toyota’s GA-K platform, Crown has a raised overall height that’s nearly four inches higher than Camry. The unique height of this sedan offers increased road visibility, along with easy entry and exit. Its flowing silhouette and sculpted body lines create a fresh look that is entirely unique for its class. Altogether, the Crown package is a combination of innovative style, performance and function. The XLE grade comes equipped with the 2.5-liter THS, AWD, three selectable drive modes, 19-inch alloy wheels, heated and powered woven fabric front seats and our all-new Toyota Multimedia System with 12.3-inch touchscreen and 6 speakers. It is available in five colors: Black, Oxygen White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Heavy Metal and Supersonic Red, with a black interior. The Limited grade also comes equipped with XLE features and adds multibeam LED headlights, a fixed panoramic roof, leather seats that are heated and ventilated up front and heated in the rear, 11-speaker JBL audio system, rain sensing windshield wipers and intelligent clearance sonar along with rear cross-traffic braking. There is also an available Advanced Technology package that adds dark metallic 21-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, a birds-eye view camera and digital key (with Remote Connect subscription). Interior colors include black, black and chestnut and macadamia. The Platinum grade includes everything on XLE and Limited and raises the bar with the HYBRID MAX powertrain, Adaptive Variable Suspension, six selectable drive modes, Advanced Park and unique 21-inch machined 10-spoke alloy wheels with black accents. Crown History The Crown first debuted in 1955 as the “Toyopet Crown,” Toyota’s first mass produced passenger vehicle. When the first generation was developed, Crown came to symbolize “innovation” and “pushing the limit” within Toyota. Since then, it has gained recognition in Japan as Toyota’s premium sedan. It was also the first Japanese car to hit American shores back in 1958, last being sold in the US in 1972. Across the 15 generations of Crown, it has been a vehicle that has led the way with innovative technology — pursuing value through engineering that is one step ahead of its time. For the new Crown, Toyota’s development team once again set innovation and pushing the limit at the core of the new generation’s concept. Toyota team members from product planning, design and engineering worked together to identify a Crown for a new era. The result is a completely new Toyota Crown that throws off the conventional concepts of a sedan and takes it into a new era. Design choices push the limit, with large-diameter wheels that give the car a powerful style, a raised hip point for ease of ingress and egress, and meticulous attention to detail on the inside for a comfortable home-away-from-home. Two Hybrid Systems, Two Winning Choices Toyota made “hybrid” synonymous with fuel efficiency more than 20 years ago with the first Prius. Today, Toyota continues to expand its hybrid lineup and overall electrified vehicle offerings, with Crown bringing the number of Toyota electrified vehicles to 16. The Toyota Crown innovates on the hybrid front with another first for Toyota sedans, the HYBRID MAX System. This new system is designed to deliver smooth and powerful torque-filled acceleration, while keeping an eye on efficiency. HYBRID MAX combines a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo engine tuned to hit peak torque between 2000-3000 RPM, with a front electric motor that helps maximize torque production. A rear wheel eAxle that’s equipped with a high output water-cooled electric motor is combined with the hybrid engine to directly transmit force to all four wheels, ensuring a thrilling throttle response and linear acceleration throughout the power band. The fourth-generation Toyota Hybrid System in the Toyota Crown combines a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with two electric motors in a highly compact system. The gas engine employs Variable Valve Timing-intelligent by Electric motor (VVT-iE) on the intake camshaft, and VVT-i on the exhaust camshaft. The variable range for the valve timings of both the intake and exhaust are set to maximize both fuel consumption and output. THS-equipped vehicles feature selectable NORMAL, ECO and SPORT driving modes that let the driver tailor the Toyota Crown’s performance personality. SPORT mode improves and sharpens throttle response, making hybrid driving more fun. ECO mode changes the throttle and environmental logic to help the driver focus on maximizing mileage from the fuel and battery, while NORMAL mode is ideal for everyday driving. Additionally, an EV (Electric Vehicle) mode allows electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances. The HYBRID MAX equipped Platinum grade receives a more comprehensive drive mode selection – which not only includes NORMAL, ECO and SPORT but adds three drive modes: SPORT+ mode that provides an emphasis on steering response, flat cornering and a sense of stability, COMFORT mode that provides a more supple drive that emphasizes passenger comfort and a CUSTOM mode that enables drivers to adjust system settings individually, creating a safe profile that suites their driving habits. All-Wheel Drive at its Smartest The 2023 Toyota Crown comes standard with Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. The XLE and Limited grades come with E-Four AWD and the Platinum grade comes with E-Four Advanced, two highly efficient systems that take maximum advantage of the hybrid powertrain’s benefits. Instead of using a transfer case and driveshaft to the rear wheels, Electronic On-Demand AWD employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. E-Four AWD achieves stable performance by driving the rear wheels with a rear motor, to provide traction when needed in slippery conditions. Toyota Crown uses the latest evolution of this system and strengthens the driving force of the rear motor compared to the conventional E-Four, enhancing stability when cornering. The front and rear wheel driving force distribution is precisely controlled to the front and rear wheels between 100:0 and 20:80, ensuring both enhanced fuel efficiency and comfortable driving performance. E-Four Advanced AWD, paired with HYBRID MAX on the Platinum grade, delivers power to the front and rear wheels via a front mounted hybrid motor and to rear wheels through a rear-mounted eAxle electric motor. This system helps ensure stable AWD performance and satisfying acceleration thanks to being paired with a direct shift six-speed automatic transmission. On the E-Four Advanced system, the front and rear wheel drive force is precisely controlled between 70:30 and 20:80. The rear motor, which generates power through water cooling, makes it possible to maximize torque to the rear wheels. This new AWD system enhances the drive force of the rear wheels and provides the feel of rear-wheel-drive maneuverability, straight line stability, comfortable turning and responsive acceleration. Toyota Crown offers either a direct shift six-speed automatic transmission (Platinum grade only) or an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT) (XLE and Limited). The Platinum grade’s direct-shift six speed transmission provides responsive acceleration thanks to Toyota’s new Hydraulic multi plate wet start clutch. A combination of technologies works together to ensure enhanced accelerator operation and vehicle response. The six speed AT also applies the assistance of the motor generator within the HYBRID MAX system, minimizing shift drop across the power band. Drivers can also throw the shifter into fixed gear mode, for paddle shifted fun. The eCVT on the XLE and Limited Grade uses a shift-by-wire system that shifts gears electronically, providing smart shift operation with a single action. Paired with the THS front and rear hybrid transaxle, Toyota Crown’s powertrain provides low fuel consumption and low noise. Aspects that manage fuel efficiency include an optimized gear ratio and a deceleration mechanism to reduce gear engagement loss. Smooth Operator, Ready to Ride Toyota Crown is built around a version of the Toyota New Global Architecture K (TNGA-K) platform that underpins some of the company’s sedans and crossovers. As such, Crown delivers the best of both worlds: sedan driving comfort and crossover-like ride height. Crown’s overall height comes in at 60.6 inches, compared to 56.9 for Camry, its overall length is 194 inches, width is 72.4 inches, and wheelbase 112.2 inches. The TNGA-K platform also allows front strut and rear multi-link suspension tuning that helps foster handling agility while providing a supple, quiet ride. The Platinum grade comes equipped with a standard Adaptive Variable Suspension. AVS components have been tuned to support the high output of 2.4 L Turbo Hybrid Engine and eAxle. Crown’s AVS uses variable oil pressure shock absorbers. This system automatically controls the friction within the absorber when turning, controlling the damping force, reducing pitch at high drive torque and minimizing the effects of bumpy roads. A linear solenoid type actuator is also equipped on the system to minimize body pitch and roll. For all grades, Toyota engineers developed a suspension system that provides comfortable maneuverability and a relaxing ride. Front suspension components include a MacPherson-type strut and a new method for fastening the steering gear, enabling rigid, direct handling that also reduces noise and vibration. A newly developed multi-link rear suspension with higher rigidity helps ensure a faster response to drive torque. Rear suspension arm placement was also optimized to suppress changes in the vertical posture, contributing to a flat driving feeling and enhanced texture. Toyota Crown’s handling is bolstered by an electronically controlled brake system featuring Active Cornering Assist (ACA), which engages the stability control to reduce understeer in certain cornering situations, so the driver feels the enhanced agility, not the system’s operation. The combination of large-diameter tires and wheels helps give the Toyota Crown its “lift-up” style. The XLE and Limited grades ride on 19-inch multi-spoke two-tone alloy wheels. Limited has available 21-inch 10-spoke dark metallic alloy wheels as part of the Advanced Tech package. The Platinum comes standard with 21-inch machined 10-spoke alloy wheels with black accents. First Class Cabin Toyota Crown provides exemplary comfort with standard 8-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats. Front seat adjustments include slide, recline, tilt, height adjust and lumbar support (driver seat only). Rear seats include ample cushioning and bolster support for maximum enjoyment. The Toyota Crown comes with standard heated front seats that can be adjusted to three levels. Limited and Platinum add standard ventilated front seats and heated rear seats to the list of creature comforts. The seats are not only comfortable, but stylish, with Softex and black woven fabric seating on the XLE, and leather seats standard on the Limited and Platinum grades. Dual zone climate control is also standard for all grades. A thin, attractive illuminated control panel runs along the dashboard, just below the multimedia screen, with frequently used functions placed on the lower row keyboard switches. All Crown grades also receive a 12.3-inch color MID. Drivers can select different displays with the push of a button, including a Hybrid System Indicator showing the driver system output and regeneration status to encourage eco-driving habits. As used on other Toyota hybrid models, the display suggests the optimal acceleration amount for eco driving. The Crown Platinum and Limited grades include a standard panoramic moonroof. For added function and ambience, in-cabin LED lighting adds a premium feel. Illumination, out of consideration for visibility and operability, includes overhead and front/rear footwell lighting, and cup holders, USB ports and door handles also receive lit accents. Crown has drivers and passengers plugged-in when it comes to charging devices. On the driver’s side, a vertical-type wireless Qi charging with enhanced space efficiency comes standard. There is also a standard USB-Type A and 12V charging port inside the console. A separate dual USB-Type C terminal is also standard on the passenger side, with the insertion port intentionally pointing to the passenger seat. For rear seat passengers, two USB-Type C ports are standard. To aid outward visibility, the Platinum grade comes standard with Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan, which provides a panoramic overhead view of the vehicle’s surroundings. Bird’s Eye View is available as part of the Advanced Tech Package on the Limited grade. The standard backup camera features projected path and dynamic gridlines. For additional convenience, Limited and Platinum come standard with a Smart Key System that works on all four doors. A Sanctuary on the Road For customers who seek premium experiences in a vehicle, keeping unwanted noise out is paramount. The 2023 Toyota Crown’s cabin brings that priority quietly home. Rather than simply aiming at a “numbers” goal for sound level (decibels), Toyota engineers created a calm atmosphere conducive to enjoying easy conversation or hearing music in cleaner detail. The high-strength TNGA-K platform is the first defense against noise intrusion, curbing vibration through the steering, floor and structure. Suspension tuning resists road surface disturbances and tire noise is reduced via strategically placed insulation and thoughtful tire/wheel construction. That’s just the beginning. Acoustic glass adds a sound-blocking barrier and absorbing insulation and body sealing material are placed throughout the structure, under the carpeting and above the headliner. The materials and their placement were optimized to minimize noise in the frequencies that typically interfere with conversation. As one example, a sound absorbing pad is placed between the engine bay and cabin to reduce road and engine noise. Engineers also undertook extensive analysis of noise transmission paths and filled spaces around door frames, window openings and wiring harnesses for enhanced cabin quietness. Even the inner rocker and bulkhead are connected with adhesive for maximum noise control. Next Gen Toyota Audio Multimedia All Toyota Crown models feature Toyota’s all-new, North American developed Audio Multimedia system. Featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen, the system offers an improved user experience and a wide range of enhanced connectivity and convenience features, including being Over-the-Air (OTA) updatable. Users can interact with the new system’s design through touch and voice activation. With Intelligent Assistant available through Drive Connect*, simple phrases like “Hey Toyota” awakens the system for voice-activated commands to search for directions, find Points of Interest (POI), adjust audio controls, change the cabin temperatures and more. The cloud-based native navigation system also offered through Drive Connect allows for real-time Over-the-Air updates for mapping and Points of Interest (POI), and Google POI data is integrated to ensure up-to-date search capability. The XLE grade features a 6-speaker sound system that provides clean, powerful sound for all types of music. On Limited and Platinum, standard is an audiophile-worthy JBL Premium Audio System with 11 speakers, including a rear subwoofer, powered by an 8-channel amplifier. It was acoustically tuned for Toyota Crown to match unique vehicle characteristics. Toyota Audio Multimedia allows for simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone connectivity with support for wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability. A Wi-Fi Connect subscription offers 4G connectivity for up to five devices. Adding to the already robust offering of audio playback ability with HD Radio, USB data and a SiriusXM® Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription, Wi-Fi Connect also enables the Integrated Streaming feature, providing the ability to link your separate Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle for onboard control. The Toyota Crown also offers a host of additional Connected Services. A Safety Connect 1-year trial includes an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator and Collision Assistance. A Service Connect 3 -year trial provides drivers the capability of receiving Vehicle Health Reports, Maintenance Alerts and reminders. A Digital Key is offered on the Platinum and as part of the Advanced Technology package on the Limited grade. With an active Remote Connect subscription, drivers can use the Digital Key via the Toyota app and allow passive entry unlock on front doors and trunk or push start using smartphone as key. The Digital Key also provides the ability to share keys with friends and family. Advanced Park, Safety & Other Technology Standard on the Platinum grade is Toyota’s Advanced Park System. Sensors identify an open parking space, then control steering, shifting, acceleration and braking for hands-free parallel or reverse/forward perpendicular parking. All Toyota Crown grades come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), which includes enhancements made possible by system sensors with improved detection capability. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection is capable of detecting motorcyclists and guardrails in certain conditions. When making a turn or approaching an intersection, the system is designed to detect certain forward or laterally approaching vehicles and provides audio/visual alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions. Toyota Crown will be equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Improved lane recognition delivers refined performance of Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is designed to notify the driver via audible and visual alerts and slight steering force if it senses the vehicle is leaving the lane without engaging a turn signal. When DRCC is set and engaged, Lane Tracing Assist uses visible lane markers or a preceding vehicle to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. Automatic High Beams are designed to detect preceding or oncoming vehicles and automatically switch between high beam and low beam headlights. Road Sign Assist is designed to recognize certain road sign information using a forward-facing camera and display it on the multi-information display (MID). Toyota’s Rear Seat Reminder comes standard on all Toyota Crown grades. The feature can note whether a rear door was opened after the vehicle has been turned on, with a reminder message in the instrument cluster after the engine is turned off, accompanied by multitone chimes. In addition to the TSS 3.0 system, other standard safety features on the Crown include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) for added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning. Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) also comes standard. Toyota Crown comes with a one-year trial subscription of Toyota Safety Connect® at no additional cost — which includes Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification. Toyota Limited Warranty Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items.
